Telecommunications companies in Spain invoiced 8,100 million in the first quarter, 1.9% more

MADRID, 6 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish telecommunications sector has invoiced between January and March more than 8,098 million euros, an increase of 1.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data revealed this Thursday by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC).

The retail segment has been the one that has registered the greatest growth with a rebound of 2.2%, to 5,771 million euros, while wholesale turnover has increased by 1.4%, to 2,327 million euros.

In the CNMC calculations, not only connectivity and telephone operators are counted, but also television companies such as AtresMedia and Mediaset and Cellnex.

During this period, traffic on mobile broadband networks has shot up 30.1%, to 1.2 million Terabytes, the vast majority through 4G, since 5G has barely represented 0.02 % of total consumption, even below 3G (0.1%).

In the employment section, between December 2021 and March 2022, 470 jobs have been destroyed in the sector, largely due to the Telefónica Voluntary Exit Plan, which was applied in that period.

In total, telecommunications employed 56,986 people as of March 2022, 0.33% more than in the same period of the previous year, although the destruction of more than 10,000 jobs in the last decade is confirmed.
