Surveys indicate that Lula's advantage over Bolsonaro in voting intention is slightly shortened

MADRID, 19 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The candidate of the Workers' Party (PT) for the Presidency of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, maintains a wide advantage over the current president of the country, Jair Bolsonaro, who has shortened the distance between the candidates for the elections.

Lula is positioned first in the presidential race, with 47 percent of the voting intentions; while Bolsonaro (Liberal Party) is in second place with 32 percent of the vote, according to a latest Datafolha poll published this Thursday.

According to these data, if the elections were held today, the PT could win the first round of the elections, according to the Brazilian newspaper 'O Globo'.

The difference is now 15 percentage points. At the end of July the distance between both candidates was 18 points; in May 21 points.

In third place, former minister Ciro Gomes (Democratic Labor Party) has 7 percent of the voting intentions. Senator Simone Tebet (Brazilian Democratic Movement) would get 2 percent of the vote, while Vera Lúcia (United Socialist Workers' Party) would get 1 percent of the voters.

Blank and invalid votes add up to 6 percent and 2 percent correspond to undecided.

As for a second round between Lula and Bolsonaro, the polls indicate that the former would obtain 54 percent compared to 37 percent for the latter. A month ago the difference was greater, Lula reached 55 percent compared to 35 percent for Bolsonaro.
