Stoltenberg promises Zelensky to strengthen military support for Ukraine at NATO summit in Madrid

BRUSSELS, June 28 (EUROPA PRESS) -

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg promised Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski on Tuesday that the allies will reinforce military support for kyiv during the NATO summit that starts tomorrow in Madrid.

In a telephone call the day before the official start of the summit, in which Zelensky will intervene by videoconference, Stoltenberg has expressed the support of the allies in the face of the "Russian war of aggression", when the four months of conflict are over.

"At our NATO summit we will increase support for our close ally Ukraine, now and in the long term. The allies are with you," the former Norwegian prime minister said in a message on social media.

For his part, the Ukrainian president has demanded more anti-missile systems from NATO to stop "Russian terrorist attacks", in a call that has served to coordinate positions for the summit, he indicated in another message on social networks.

The telephone contact comes in the midst of the Russian offensive in Donbas, where an attack took place on Monday against a shopping center in the town of Kremenchuk, with the balance of 16 people dead, in what Zelenski denounced as "one of the most terrorist acts daredevils of European history".

The meeting in Madrid will be the occasion for the allied leaders to review the type of military aid they allocate to Ukraine and announce new commitments in the form of a comprehensive package, which is expected to include more weapons, logistical support, communications and anti-drone systems.
