Sánchez picks up the "glove" of the PNV of more participation of the CCAA in European Councils: I do not forget who has supported us

MADRID, 21 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has reacted to the claim made by the PNV that the Autonomous Communities, and more specifically the Basque Executive, have more direct participation in the European Councils, assuring that it picks up "the gauntlet" of this request for Basque nationalists.

"I do not forget who has been supporting this government in the most difficult moments," Sánchez replied to the PNV spokesperson in the Senate, Estefanía Beltrán de Heredia, during the control session of the Executive in the Upper House, where he demanded of Sánchez that the Basque Executive have more participation in those matters with full powers.

In addition, the PNV spokesperson has warned Sánchez not to forget who supported him during the investiture session and to carry out different laws, to which the chief executive has responded with "words of recognition of that loyalty" with the Government and with the State: "They have pitched in and have made highly controversial decisions."

And after this, Sánchez has replied to the PNV spokesperson that he has "no problem" in recognizing the participation of the autonomous communities in the multilevel space of European construction, although he has claimed that it is something that the Government is already doing.

In this context, Sánchez has defended co-governance with the autonomous communities in the preparatory meetings for the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, in the face of these demands that the PNV has launched at him.

Of course, he recognizes that there are governments "of a nationalist nature" such as that of the Basque Country, which bet not so much on multilateralism but on bilateralism with the central Executive. "But the government cannot be denied that we have held 20 conferences of presidents, and there is the culture that we have been implementing," he added.

Likewise, Sánchez has assured that he understands that "this dialectic" always exists between some autonomous governments, as is the case of the Basque Country, and the central Executive regarding what participation in these European Councils should be, but he has proclaimed before the Basque senator that "The Government's commitment to co-governance cannot be denied."

In this context, the head of the Executive has listed the participation of the different regional governments in preparatory meetings for this Spanish Presidency of the European Union, such as the Conference for Issues Related to the EU (CARUE), which met in July last year in the Basque Country.

He has also defended that the idea of the Government is to propose a series of objectives during this Presidency of the last semester of the year that have to do with social issues, where a large part of these powers belong to the Executives of the autonomous communities.
