Sánchez calls for caution and to wait for the result of the investigation after the missile explosion in Poland

Points out that the G20 has adopted a "unanimous" declaration against nuclear weapons and a "majority" call for an end to the war

MADRID, 16 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, stated this Wednesday that he wants to be "cautious" regarding the missile explosion in Poland that occurred tonight and has asked to wait for the result of the ongoing investigation to find out who is responsible for the event.

Sánchez has indicated that this is the position agreed upon by all the G7 and NATO governments meeting this morning in Bali --early morning in Spain-- on the margins of the G20. This was stated in a press conference from the Indonesian city.

Subsequently, in a message on Twitter collected by Europa Press, he indicated that he had spoken with the Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and had conveyed "all the support and solidarity of Spain".

In addition, during his speech before the media, Sánchez welcomed the fact that all the countries participating in this summit, including Russia, have included in the joint declaration that the use or threat of nuclear weapons is inadmissible. He therefore stressed that in this way a "resounding message" is sent that can help generate certainty, in an eminently economic forum such as the G20.

He has also stressed that "the vast majority of countries" have signed in this statement their condemnation of the war in Ukraine and the aggression of Russian President Vladimir Putin and that this is the great cause of the food crisis and the energy crisis.

Sánchez has reiterated his condolences to the families of the two deceased in Poland after the fall of several missiles that he has described as an "accident", while vindicating the unity of the states of the European Union and NATO at this time " so hard". In this regard, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, stated that it was "improbable" that the projectile was fired by Russia.

However, he has pointed out that the G20 summit has been marked by Russia's attacks on kyiv, which in his opinion reflect "clear evidence" of Putin's unwillingness to end the war. He has thus condemned the attacks on Ukraine that also occurred while world leaders were speaking in Indonesia about how to guarantee peace.

On the other hand, the head of the Executive has regretted that due to the latest events they were forced to "postpone" the bilateral meetings that they planned to hold this Wednesday with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and with the managing director of the International Monetary Fund. , Kristalina Georgieva.

Thus, he has indicated that in the coming days he will speak with them by phone, but that it has been "impossible" to hold these bilateral meetings in person. Previously, Sánchez had met on the sidelines of the summit with the Chinese Prime Minister, Xi Jinpin, and his Singaporean counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong.

Regarding the rest of the content of the final declaration with which the G20 summit concluded, Sánchez pointed out that on food security a message has been sent to renew the agreement that allows the departure of grain by ship from Ukraine, which expires in just three days, as he has warned.

In terms of climate change, the countries have reaffirmed the commitments of the Paris Climate Summit and have emphasized the financing needs of developing countries to advance in the deployment of renewables, as he explained.

He has also maintained that the countries have shown that they share the vision that Spain has defended, that is, that the war in Ukraine should not serve as a pretext for failing to comply with the commitments to decarbonise the economy. On the contrary, it should serve to accelerate the deployment of renewables and the energy transition, and this has been included in the joint declaration, he added.

Finally, Sánchez has announced that Spain is going to contribute 15 million euros over the next three years to the so-called "pandemic fund" whose creation came as a result of the G20, under the umbrella of the World Bank and associated with the World Health Organization. Cheers, as you recalled. Thus, he has indicated that it is an inclusive fund that aims to help low- and middle-income countries in the face of potential pandemics.
