Sánchez bets on public-private collaboration against the food crisis

MADRID, 1 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has opted this Wednesday for public-private collaboration to face the food crisis that the war in Ukraine can generate, at the summit of leaders organized by the United Nations (UN) Global Compact on sustainability directed to the private sector.

Sánchez has warned that due to this conflict almost a fifth of humanity, around 1,700 million people, are at risk of falling into poverty and hunger. In this sense, he has relied on public-private partnerships to find sustainable and lasting solutions to food shortages.

In his virtual speech at this event - which was inaugurated by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres - Sánchez stressed that this joint work is what has allowed the development of vaccines against covid-19 in a Record time.

In addition, he has indicated that it also applies to economic recovery and to accelerate the green and digital transitions of societies. In this sense, Sánchez pointed out that the Government has placed public-private collaboration at the center of its plans to transform the economy and improve the living conditions of citizens.

During his speech at the plenary session under the title 'State of the world', the Chief Executive indicated that the pandemic has shown that global challenges can only be overcome by working together.

This forum is made up of nearly 19,000 companies from 170 countries that acquire, by adhering, 10 commitments in terms of sustainability and human development aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. Spain is the country with the largest number of adhered companies , 2,173 in all. Of these, 21% are large companies, 61% are SMEs and 18% other types of entities.

The President of the Government concluded his speech by highlighting the need to "continue joining forces and seeking courageous and creative solutions to create a better, more sustainable, inclusive and fair world", he concluded.
