Sánchez, at the start of the NATO Summit: "Putin, you are not going to win"

MADRID, 29 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has assured at the start of the NATO Summit, which is being held this Wednesday and Thursday in Madrid, that at the meeting the allies send a "very strong and very clear" message, which is that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not win the Ukraine war and that the invaded country will "prevail".

"Putin, you are not going to win," Sánchez pointed out during his speech at the NATO Forum, held on the margins of the summit in collaboration with the Atlantic Alliance, the Elcano Royal Institute, the German Marshall Fund, the Munich Security Conference and the Atlantic Council.

The president has insisted that the summit is being held at a "historic turning point", in a "very difficult" context, but has celebrated that Madrid "will be remembered" for the expansion of the Atlantic Alliance, after Turkey has raised the veto to the accession of Sweden and Finland.

"This is excellent news," he said, before extending his congratulations to all the parties involved in the negotiation that has unlocked the entry into the Alliance of "two European democracies" that will "reinforce" it.

Sánchez reviewed some of the decisions that will come out of the NATO Summit and highlighted the partners' support for the new Strategic Concept, which will be the Alliance's 'road map' for the next decade, "a future tumultuous". In addition, he has alluded to the reinforcement of the eastern flank, the need for a response posed by "new competitors", the hybrid threats and the climate crisis.

Along these lines, he made a special mention of the need for funding for the future NATO mission, an issue that will also be addressed during the meeting in Madrid. "Our objectives are peace and security and an Alliance that provides them," the president summarized.
