Six people die in a shooting near a school in Guanajuato, Mexico

Five students between 17 and 18 years old, as well as a 65-year-old woman, have died after a shooting Monday night in the vicinity of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz primary school in the community of Barrón, in the city of Salamanca , in the Mexican state of Guanajuato.

"Six people lost their lives in an armed attack, for many years we have suffered violence and we had been working on a recurring basis with the Police, the relative calm we had has been cut," lamented the mayor of Salamanca, César Prieto, in a video shared on Youtube.

Prieto has sent his condolences to the families of the victims and his "most sincere condolences," adding that he will provide the families with "all the necessary support."

Thus, he has emphasized that the local authorities are going to continue "working on the issue of insecurity" although "there is still a long way to go", as he has assured.

The high school of the Barrón community will remain closed from two days to a week, the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Jorge Enrique Hernández Meza, has reported, as reported by the Telediario channel.

The authorities are working on psychological matters with the relatives of the victims, with the students and with the teachers of the school.

Likewise, an operation has been deployed by the authorities to find those responsible for the shooting, as reported by the newspaper 'El Sol de Salamanca'.

The first police reports indicate that the attackers were traveling in an SUV and on two motorcycles, after perpetrating the massacre they fled.
