Scholz and Zelensky address how to unblock Ukrainian ports so as not to aggravate the food crisis

MADRID, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, and the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, agreed on Wednesday in pointing out the need to reach an agreement to unblock the Ukrainian ports before the food crisis worsens.

In a telephone conversation held on Wednesday, both leaders discussed alternatives on how to unblock cereal exports and thus prevent prices from continuing to rise, according to the German government spokesman, Steffen Hebestreit.

Among other topics, Scholz has also transferred his impressions to Zelenski after having recently spoken by telephone with the French president, and with himself, Vladimir Putin, a fortnight ago.

For his part, President Zelensky has told on his Twitter account that they have talked about how to "strengthen" Ukraine's defenses, about how to offer guarantees for world food security, as well as Russia's obligations to respect international standards regarding regarding the treatment of prisoners of war.

Last week, Scholz had promised Ukraine the delivery of more heavy weapons, although at the moment the arrival of any of these teams on Ukrainian territory has not been confirmed.
