Sainz: "The red flag has prevented me from fighting for pole"

MADRID, 28 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) has lamented that the red flag has prevented him from fighting for pole in his last attempt at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, although he believes that they are "in a good position to achieve a good result" in the race, thanks to the team's double on the front row of the grid.

"Perez went into the wall just ahead of me, I was on my fastest lap, I saw the yellow flag just before turn 8, I had to brake. I tried to avoid him. It's a shame, another year in the that a red flag has conditioned the session and we have not been able to try that pole", he declared to DAZN after the qualifying session.

In this sense, the man from Madrid was convinced that he could have achieved the privileged position if they had not waved the flag. "I think so. We've had good pace all day and I was picking up my pace, but we'll never know. I felt good in the car," he stressed.

Finally, Sainz believes that the team can achieve a good result in the Principality, where he achieved his first podium with Ferrari in Formula 1. "We are in a good position to achieve a good result for the team. The car has been incredible throughout the weekend and we'll try," he concluded.
