Russia warns the EU that it will cut off gas supplies if it decides to limit its price

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Russia has threatened to cut off the supply of imported gas to Europe if the European Union decides to limit its price after a few words by the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in which she has been in favor of this measure.

"It will be like with oil. There will simply be no Russian gas in Europe," said the deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dimitri Medvedev, in his Telegram profile, according to the Russian state news agency TASS.

These comments have come after the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has stated that she "firmly" believes that "it is time to apply a ceiling to the price of Russian gas exported to Europe".

During an event of her party in Germany, the CDU, the leader of the European Executive has directly pointed to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, whom she has accused of being behind "manipulation" that causes "severe alterations" in the electricity market.

Among the tools to stop the rise in electricity prices, he has pointed to the design of the electricity market and has given as an example the option of "decoupling the price of gas from the cost of electricity", apart from betting on "massive investments" in renewable energy.

All these measures will be on the table at the emergency meeting of European energy ministers on September 9, which will discuss ways to intervene in the market to stop the rise in prices.

This same Friday, the G7 has reached an agreement to establish a price limitation on Russian oil and other derivative products, according to a statement published by the club of countries at the end of the meeting of finance ministers.
