Russia says it has cleared mines of 50 kilometers of coastline near the port of Mariupol

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Russian authorities say demining specialists from the Russian Defense Ministry have cleared a 50-kilometre stretch of the Azov Sea coast near the port city of Mariupol.

"My group was working along the coast. We have cleared about 50 kilometers," said a field engineer alias 'Majmut', adding that it took about three weeks to clear this section, as reported by the news agency. TASS.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday the total withdrawal of the Ukrainian Army from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, which certified Moscow's seizure of the city.

Previously, the Azov Battalion, a paramilitary organization that fights in support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, had ordered "stop defending" the city, which involved the surrender of Azovstal, a symbol of resistance in the area.
