Russia extends the state of terrorist alert in the Kursk region, on the border with Ukraine, for two weeks

MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian authorities announced this Thursday a two-week extension of the state of terrorist alert decreed about two months ago in the Kursk region, located on the border with Ukraine, in the framework of the war unleashed on February 24 by the invasion order given by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Our official agencies and special services have been working in a reinforced way for almost two months. The 'yellow' level of terrorist alert has helped to prevent a terrorist attack during the May holidays", said the regional governor, Roman Staravoit , in a message on his Telegram account.

"Together with the heads of official agencies, it has been decided to extend its validity for another two weeks, until July 22," he said, while asking the population "to remain vigilant." "Report suspicious citizens or abandoned objects to the Police," he stressed, along with two official phone numbers.

The Kursk and Belgorod regions have denounced on several occasions attacks by the Ukrainian Army, within the framework of the invasion initiated by order of Putin, who days before had recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, located in the east of Ukraine and the scene of a conflict since 2014.
