Russia denounces that the US has not yet authorized the trip of its delegation to the UN assembly

MADRID, 3 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian government has complained to the United Nations that the United States has not yet granted a visa to any of the members of the Russian delegation that is scheduled to attend the plenary session of the UN General Assembly this month.

It is up to the host country, in this case the United States, to grant the corresponding entry permits to the delegations that want to attend the events in New York, but Russia has indicated that none of its 56 representatives can access for now.

This has been denounced by the Russian ambassador to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia, in a letter sent to the organization's secretary general, António Guterres, and in which he has assured that the US authorities have been denying visas for "several months", reports the TASS agency .

The General Assembly meeting will start on September 20 and Russia is scheduled to speak on the 24th. In the 2021 edition, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke on behalf of Moscow.

The office of the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, has promised to mediate, for which he plans to be in "close contact" with both the United States and Russia, according to a statement from his spokesman collected by the DPA agency.

"We will speak with the United States mission about visas for the delegations that will attend the next meetings at the UN headquarters" in New York, reads the note, which refers to "specific cases" such as the Russian one.
