Robles responds to Belarra not to give a defense opinion if he does not know and reminds him of the raped Ukrainian girls and women

He says that he is not going to accept "lessons from anyone" and demands discretion on whether fighters will be given to Ukraine

MADRID, 27 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has recommended "prudence" to the leader of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, when speaking about security and defense. "I am sure that you will know a lot about your area, but you will know nothing about other areas," she added, while stressing that she also wants peace, so that the attacks on the Ukrainian population cease, influencing the women who They are raped in war.

"In my defense of peace, I am not going to accept lessons from anyone. Because we are with peace, with those who suffer violence, who are suffering permanent aggressions. Ukrainian children and women who are raped require special protection," he proclaimed. in statements this Monday to La Sexta, collected by Europa Press.

Robles has claimed that the socialist wing of the government also wants peace and an end to the conflict with the withdrawal of Russia, so that Ukrainians can live and express themselves freely in their country. And he recalled that there are fifty countries within the group of donors that are supporting Ukraine in military matters.

"Peace is not only that there are no shots", but that human rights are respected, such as the life and integrity of people, so that "women and girls are not raped, as is happening in Ukraine" during the war, he has maintained.

Questioned by Podemos's criticism of the PSOE for supporting the supply of weapons, Robles has referred to Belarra as "that member of the Government", without mentioning her name, when she has been specifically asked about her, at the same time that she has stressed that the powers of the 'home' leader "have nothing to do with the field of security, defense and international politics."

In this sense, he has specified that in his case, as the person in charge of Defense, there are other areas of the Executive that he "does not" know either. Robles has pointed out that when he ignores a subject, "always" he tends to act prudently and "do not make any kind of considerations."

Thus, he has stated that security and defense policy is set by Pedro Sánchez as president and "it is a very clear position". In the same way, he has pointed out that the statements have to be linked to reality and knowledge of the issues.

And as for Belarra wondering if the next step is to send soldiers, the Minister of Defense has replied that she does not know "where" this approach comes from, "devoid of any sense", because NATO regulations establish that only they contribute troops if the attacked country is a member of the Alliance and, in this case, Ukraine is not.

"Therefore, I do not know the hidden reasons why he wants to say it, but it does not correspond to reality, nor is it a possible scenario nor will it ever happen," he remarked.

Regarding the possibility of contributing fighters to the Ukrainian Army, the minister has avoided giving details, since it is a decision that is studied jointly between the allies and requires discretion.

Lastly, he has rejected the possibility of talking about a tie right now in the war, since Russia is the aggressor and the Ukrainian people are defending themselves "legitimately" from the "massacre" of Vladimir Putin.
