Robles calls for "prudence" over Poland because NATO intervention would be "a terrible World War III"

He says that the Alliance will not allow "not a single millimeter" of its territory to be attacked but claims to wait for the investigation

MADRID, 16 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has requested this Wednesday "prudence" regarding the missiles that fell in Poland that have caused two deaths, since the activation of Article 5 of NATO and its intervention would lead to "a terrible Third World War" .

In an interview on Telecinco, collected by Europa Press, Robles has underlined the support of the Atlantic Alliance for Ukraine and all allied countries. "We are not going to accept that not a single millimeter of a country that belongs to the Alliance is attacked," he has guaranteed.

However, he has asked for prudence and to wait for the investigation to clarify the origin of the explosion registered in Poland. This Wednesday there is a meeting of the ambassadors to NATO and another one of its military committee, but the Alliance's crisis cell has not yet been activated, as he has revealed.

In addition, this same Tuesday there was a meeting of the defense ministers of the European Union in Brussels and in it a "pessimistic" analysis of the invasion of Ukraine was already made, since the forecast is that Russia seeks to "undermine the morale" of the population during the next months with cuts of water, electricity and energy.

Later, the explosion on Polish soil set off "all the alarms" and the night passed in a "tense calm", according to Robles, who in any case stressed that NATO's objective since the start of the invasion has been been that there was no escalation of the conflict.

"Ukraine's fight for its integrity and sovereignty is everyone's fight and we are not going to accept that not a single millimeter of a country that belongs to the Alliance is attacked," he insisted. "But we have to be very prudent, not we're going to lose the papers, let's let the investigation move on."

In his opinion, one of the things that the invasion of Ukraine has highlighted is "the vulnerability" of all countries and the need to have a strong defense budget as a guarantee of "peace, democracy, security and freedom".

And to those who consider themselves anti-militarists, an adjective that Robles sees as "from the last century", it has reminded them of the jobs generated by the defense industry in places in Spain such as Ferrol, Cartagena or the Bay of Cádiz.
