Rins triumphs over Márquez and Bagnaia assaults the leadership of MotoGP

Alonso López wins in Moto2 and Augusto Fernández says goodbye to the leadership

The Spanish rider Alex Rins (Suzuki) won the victory in the MotoGP race of the Australian Grand Prix this Sunday, after a great fight with Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) who was second, while the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati ), third, has assaulted the leadership of the queen category due to the abandonment of Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha).

Two years after his last win at MotorLand, Rins was reunited with victory at Phillip Island, all after coming back from the tenth starting position and getting rid of all the great favorites for the title and in a tight finish in which seven drivers finished in less than a second, sealing the second tightest 'Top 10' in history -5,940 seconds-.

Thus, he crowned a podium in which he was accompanied by Márquez and 'Pecco', the new MotoGP leader after taking advantage of Quartararo's retirement, so he will have his first match point in Malaysia. 'El Diablo' was out of the race after making a mistake on lap 4 crashing into turn 4. He returned to the track outside of the 'Top 20', but crashed again at turn 2 during lap 11.

Earlier, Australian Jack Miller (Ducati) mathematically said goodbye to his title chances in a dramatic ninth lap, in which he was overtaken by Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) and Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati) before being rammed hard by Alex Marquez (Honda) in his own turn 4.

Meanwhile, Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) was unable to take advantage of Quartararo's 'zero' and finished ninth, getting seven points that now leave him 27 points behind Bagnaia (233), with the Frenchman second (219). With this, Bagnaia will have his first 'match point' in Malaysia, where he would be champion if he wins and Quartararo is off the podium.

Regarding the rest of the Spaniards, Jorge Martín (Ducati) finished seventh, Pol Espargaró (Repsol Honda) was eleventh, Raúl Fernández (KTM) sixteenth, Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) seventeenth and Joan Mir (Suzuki) eighteenth. Alex Marquez (Honda) failed to finish.

In Moto2, the Spanish Alonso López (Boscoscuro) won the victory ahead of his compatriot Pedro Acosta (Kalex) and the British Jake Dixon (Kalex), in a race in which Augusto Fernández (Kalex) suffered a crash that caused him to give up the leadership to the Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex).

Phillip Island left one of the worst races in the premier class of the year, with up to eleven riders dropping out, but in which the Spanish took five of the top six positions and up to six places in the 'Top 10'.

Augusto Fernández, who arrived at the ocean track with a point and a half advantage over Ogura, was one of the losers of the day by losing the front wheel and going to the ground while riding in third place. The Japanese, who was also in trouble, was able to take advantage of his stumble and asserted his eleventh place to take the lead in the general classification.

Thus, he dominates with 3.5 points over the Balearic, the only one who could snatch the title from him excluding Arón Canet (Kalex), who is no longer accountable after being ninth this Sunday.

Fermín Aldeguer (Boscoscuro) finished in fourth position, ahead of Manu González (Kalex) and Jeremy Alcoba (Kalex). In addition, Albert Arenas (Kalex) finished fourteenth and Marcos Ramírez (MV Augusta) did so seventeenth. Neither Augusto Fernández nor Jorge Navarro (Kalex) finished the appointment.
