Richard Carapaz will run in the EF Education-EasyPost in 2023

"I am motivated to join the EF to fight for the dream of the Tour"

MADRID, 19 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers), Olympic champion and winner of the 2019 Giro d'Italia, will ride from 2023 in the American EF Education-EasyPost team, in a new stage for the runner in which he seeks to "win something more " in his record.

"EF Education-EasyPost is proud to announce that Richard Carapaz will join the team in 2023," the team announced in a statement, on the same day as La Vuelta 22 kicks off with Carapaz battling in British colours.

According to Carapaz himself, his signing is because he wants to earn even more. "When you conquer one thing, you want more. I am one of those people who wants more. There are still things I haven't achieved. I would like to try to win another Grand Tour and a life goal has always been to win the Tour de France," he acknowledged.

Despite the fact that the INEOS Grenadiers is one of the most powerful blocks of the UCI WorldTour, the Ecuadorian seeks to be the absolute protagonist and with that role he will arrive, from 2023, at the EF. "It's something I will fight for. I know it's possible. I know what my potential is and what I can do, what I can achieve, and I'm fighting for this dream," he added.

He assured that the EF Education-EasyPost is a team "with a lot of ambition" and many wishes. "I am a piece that can fit very well in the team. I am motivated and I was looking for a team with the same goals as me. I have the focus and I want to try to win the Tour de France and I think that is something we can achieve here together." reiterated the former Movistar Team cyclist.

"The team wants to achieve its objectives and that is something very valuable to me. A team like this that wants to win a Grand Tour like me. This is something that we will have to work a lot on because this is something that requires a lot of work, a lot of dedication. and that is what this team has. I am motivated to join the team to fight for this dream", he assured.

In addition, Richard Carapaz will be on the team with his Ecuadorian compatriots Jonathan Caicedo and Alexander Cepeda. "I know them well, especially Caicedo. We have known each other for many years because we grew up in the same cycling program, so I know him and we have trained together over the years," said the cyclist.

For his part, the CEO of EF Education-EasyPost, Jonathan Vaughters, welcomed Richard Carapaz to the team. "Carapaz has always been one of my favorite riders, and not just because he wins. Carapaz wins with intelligence, opportunity, aggressiveness and determination. He won the Giro because he was very intelligent and attacked at the right time", he valued.

“For our team style, Richard is a perfect fit, because we need a leader who can win races using clever tactics and not just raw power. That is what Richard brings to us and we are very excited to help him as much as we can to exploit his style of racing. aggressive and cunning career", celebrated the CEO.
