Ribera estimates that the cap on gas prices will cut inflation by "eight tenths or one point"

MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The third vice-president and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, estimated this Thursday that the cap on the price of gas in the Iberian market will contribute to reducing inflation in Spain "around eight tenths or one point" in the next months.

Ribera, in statements to Onda Cero collected by Europa Press, has indicated, however, that it will be necessary to see how the rest of the energy raw materials behave, not just gas or oil.

"We are following with great concern the evolution of the price of gas and oil for fuel consumption and it is true that the great alert that we are experiencing at the moment is how the prices of energy raw materials are determining a very large distortion in the economy as a whole", he stated.

The third vice president of the Government has stressed that we must try to "alleviate as much as possible" this condition so that there is not a "chain" increase in all the prices of goods and services.

Ribera has also highlighted that the 'Iberian exception', which will come into force in the middle of this month and which will help lower the electricity bill by capping the price of gas, offers a guarantee for autumn and winter, in which "very likely" there will be "a turbulent time".

The minister recalled that, as it begins to be applied in mid-June, consumers will notice the application of the 'Iberian exception' on the electricity bill for the month of July.
