Renfe has recommended acquiring the free Cercanías and Media Distancia tickets before September 5, given the increase in passengers that is expected on that day in the Cercanías and Media Distancia network throughout Spain.
According to figures provided to Europa Press by the company, Renfe users purchased a total of 157,789 free Cercanías and Media Distancia tickets in the first 48 hours of ticket sales, valid for travel between September 1 and December 31. December 2022.
Of the total number of free season tickets, 58% were purchased online and 42% at ticket offices and vending machines at Renfe stations.
Said season tickets can be purchased from last August 24 through the Renfe Cercanías mobile application, and at station ticket offices and self-service machines. Although they can be obtained during the entire validity of the measure, Renfe has indicated that it is advisable to do so before September 5, the first Monday after the holidays, in which a considerable increase in travelers is expected.
Likewise, to speed up the acquisition of season tickets, the company has pointed out that prior registration through Renfe's mobile applications or web pages is convenient. Once registered, customers will be able to obtain their passes on the Renfe Cercanías app and at the stations or self-service machines at the stations.
Travelers who have not registered through the Renfe website or apps can purchase the ticket at the sales offices or self-service machines at Renfe stations, presenting their NIF, NIE or passport, since the tickets are personal and non-transferable.
To acquire the subscription, although it is free, it is necessary to deposit a deposit of 10 euros for each Cercanías or Rodalies nucleus, and 20 euros for each Conventional Media Distancia service. Payment by card will allow the refund of the deposit to be made automatically (once the validity period has ended) in compliance with the conditions of the payment, that is, making at least 16 journeys in these four months.
DISCOUNTS ON AVANT TICKETS FROM SEPTEMBER 1
On the other hand, the Avant services will have a 50% discount for recurring users, which applies to all Avant multi-trip tickets (Card Plus Pass, Card Plus 10 or Card Plus 10-45), which are sold between on September 1 and December 31, 2022, with specific conditions of use adapted to the established bonus period.
