Real Madrid gnaws the Betic 'bone' and is left alone

The madridista team put an end to five visits scoring from Betis and stays with the leadership in LaLiga Santander

MADRID, 3 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Real Madrid was left with the sole leadership of LaLiga Santander 2022-2023 after ending its losing streak at home against Betis, whom it beat this Saturday with a hard-fought 2-1 in its domestic debut at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Brazilian goals of Vinicius and Rodrygo served for the Madrid team to leave Sergio Canales' goal to nothing and in five visits scoring and without conceding for the Verdiblancos, the other team that had full points and that, although they competed until the end, could not do too much damage against a rival who enjoyed many good chances.

Madrid's drought of goals in the last five of the Andalusian team ended quickly. After more than 450 minutes without a goal at home against this rival, the current champion only took nine minutes to overcome Rui Silva. Alaba drew a great pass behind the defense for Vinicius and the Brazilian managed to get past the Portuguese goalkeeper.

However, despite apparently having control of the game, Carlo Ancelotti's men were not happy for long, as they once again made it clear that they are not fine defensively. Borja Iglesias received a throw-in with his back almost glued to the near post by Courtois and acted as '9' with a good drop shot at the entrance of Canales that restored equality and spirit to a team that after the conceded goal had lost due to injury to Fekir.

The locals reacted well to 1-1 and took possession of the match, supported by the work of a Tchouameni on the rise again in the middle, where he was accompanied by the strength of Camavinga and the quality of Modric. The game then had practically only one direction, but Real Madrid lacked aim to have gone into the break ahead against a rival subject to the work of 'Panda', Canales and Luiz Felipe.

Vinicius was not fine with everything in his favor to send Rodrygo's pass into the net, the other novelty in the eleven, and Benzema did not sign his best shot either after an assist from his best partner, insistent once again on his side. Rui Silva put a spectacular hand to a header from Tchouameni and then, before the siege and the frenetic pace, Luiz Felipe made two providential cuts.

The second part kept a similar script. The strong pace caused ups and downs at the start and good chances for both teams, especially for the current European champions with Benzema not being able to hit his shot on goal. Modric also tried his luck with a powerful shot, while the visitors, encouraged by Canales, warned with a couple of counterattacks, especially with one that did not end in the best way Alex Moreno.

Ancelotti read the moment of the game well and put in Fede Valverde, seeking to take advantage of his strength with the spaces that appeared. The Uruguayan did not enter the offensive side but in the middle for Camavinga and in his first appearance, he sent a precise pass to the heart of the area that Rodrygo did not spare to close a good local team play.

Pellegrini also tried to react from the bench and introduced three purely offensive changes with the entry of Willian José, Joaquín and Ruibal. Real Madrido did not 'kill' the clash, but except for a long shot from Guido Rodríguez and a possible penalty claim from Borja Iglesias after 90 minutes, they did not suffer any more to maintain the plenary session.
