Ravil Maganov, president of Russian oil company Lukoil, dies

MADRID, 1 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the board of directors of the Russian oil company Lukoil has died this Thursday after a "serious illness", as reported by the company itself in a statement.

The firm has highlighted the work of the executive in expanding not only the company itself, but the entire oil and gas sector in Russia." He began his career as an oil operator and in a few years went on to lead the production association Langepasneftegaz, one of the state firms that formed Lukoil after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Before becoming chairman of Lukoil's board, Maganov was executive vice president in charge of the company's upstream and production business.

Lukoil has not made reference in its statement to the exact causes of death. However, the Russian news agencies Tass and Interfax have assured, citing knowledgeable sources, that the executive would have committed suicide by throwing himself from the sixth floor window of a Moscow hospital.
