Raquel Sánchez intends to turn Spain into a benchmark for mobility with the Global Mobility Call

MADRID, 14 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, this morning inaugurated the Global Mobility Call (GMC), a congress focused on mobility that will be held until Thursday at Ifema Madrid and with which the Government plans to convert Spain in "world reference of mobility".

In her opening speech, the minister expressed her desire that this first edition of the fair serve as a focus for attracting investment and technological innovation, with the aim of taking advantage of a Spanish transport system that she considers "pioneering" in the world.

Sánchez has defended that his Government has already laid the first foundations to promote this system with two legislative projects focused on transport: the Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy and the Sustainable Mobility Law, both aligned with the sustainable development objectives (ODS ) of the United Nations.

As explained by the minister, these regulations will pivot on three main pillars: the regulations linked to the planning and financing of infrastructures, the involvement of the private sector and public investment aimed at promoting ecological fleets.

All these projects will be promoted by European funds, whose main item, of 13,000 million euros, will be dedicated to sustainable mobility, increasing investments in this area by up to 30% in the coming years.

Sánchez highlighted the 3,000 million euros already allocated to promoting active mobility, such as the creation of low-emission zones or the promotion of cycling routes, priority lanes and dissuasive car parks, as well as prioritizing the railway as a more sustainable means of transport.

The owner of the Transport portfolio concluded by highlighting that all these initiatives will open up new opportunities for the productive fabric and create an ecosystem of mobility companies, such as alternative platforms and solutions to private vehicles that different startups are already developing.

Over the next three days, the event will connect agents from different economic and social sectors that act directly or indirectly in sustainable mobility, such as public institutions, large corporations, associations, the academic and scientific world, investors, SMEs and entrepreneurs.

The congress is organized by Ifema Madrid and Smobhub, and is sponsored by the Ministry. The honorary presidency is held by King Felipe VI and it has been declared an event of exceptional public interest.

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will close the congress, which will once again have the presence of Raquel Sánchez, as well as the Ministers of Industry, Reyes Maroto, and of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, together with 220 speakers and company representatives such as Renfe, Adif, Banco Santander, Renault, Microsoft, Iberdrola, Iberia, Aena, Airbus, Cepsa, Acciona, Repsol or Mapfre, among others.
