Russian President Vladimir Putin will chair a new operational meeting with the national security leadership on Monday in what will be the first meeting after the explosion on Saturday that caused the partial collapse of the Kerch bridge linking Crimea and Russia.

The meeting has been confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov, who has not specified whether the incident, still under investigation, will be among the issues to be discussed.

"We will let you know the results of the meeting," Peskov declared at a press conference collected by the TASS agency.

These meetings are usually attended by the country's Prime Minister, Mijail Mishustin, the Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, and the Interior Minister, Vladimir Kolokoltsev.

The bridge was seriously damaged early this past Saturday as a result of a huge explosion attributed first to the explosion of a truck that immediately afterwards caused the chain detonation of at least seven fuel tanks transported by rail, in an incident that left three dead, according to Russian authorities.

Despite the first accusations by local Crimean officials that Ukraine was responsible for the explosions, neither the Kremlin has made an official statement nor have the kyiv authorities commented on this incident on the main road connecting Russia and Crimea. , as well as an infamous symbol for Ukraine of the Russian occupation of the peninsula.

The three fatalities are presumably the passengers of a vehicle that was driving right next to the truck whose explosion ignited at least seven fuel tanks on a train that was traveling along the bridge's rail track at the same time.
