Putin considers that Canada was late in returning the Nord Stream turbine because it seeks to enter the energy market

MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized the Canadian authorities' delay in returning a turbine to Germany for the Nord Stream gas pipeline, noting that this delay is due to Ottawa's plans to enter the energy market and supply Europe.

The president has recalled the episode of the turbine and has questioned why Canada was late in sending the turbine, alleging the sanctions imposed against Russia for the war, if the specific piece that Germany required was a matter of an external company.

"I will tell you why Canada did this: because it produces oil and gas by itself and fully enters the European market," the Russian president ventured this Thursday during an economic forum, according to the TASS news agency.

Finally, Putin has taken this case as a clear example of the importance for Russia of having the manufacturing and development industries of this type of engineering.

The Russian gas export monopoly, Gazprom, announced a month ago that it would reduce by 40 percent the supply it sent through the Nord Stream, which connects Russia with Germany, as a result of delays in the repairs of several pieces of equipment by the of the German firm Siemens.

Now, the gas pipeline is immersed in a pause for maintenance, which will end on Thursday, with which it will return to operating at 40 percent of its performance, since Gazprom has denounced this Wednesday that it has not yet received the aforementioned turbine.
