PSOE and Unidas Podemos exchange reproaches and accuse each other of immobility in the reform of the 'only yes is yes' law

MADRID, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

PSOE and Unidas Podemos maintain the clash regarding the reform of the Law of only 'yes is yes' with crossed accusations of immobility and lack of will to reach an agreement that resolves the open crisis in the coalition government.

The statements issued by both sides of the coalition this Wednesday indicate that the discrepancies continue and they have not been able to take steps to unblock the reform of the law, despite the fact that the will of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, is to find a solution as soon as possible. before, aware of the wear and tear caused by the incessant reductions in sentences for those convicted of sexual crimes.

"We are going to solve it," said the head of the Executive this morning in the halls of Congress at the end of the control session with the Government. However, the messages released below from PSOE and Unidas Podemos indicate that the distance between the two has not been reduced.

Thus, the Minister of Finance and Public Function and Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, María Jesús Montero, criticized that the purples seek to win "the story" but the proposals that they have been presenting do not allow progress in the negotiation, because they do not modify the core of the disagreements between the two coalition partners.

"Many proposals can be sent," which in his opinion "count more for the story" than to try to solve the problem, he said, referring to Irene Montero's Ministry of Equality. Thus, he has complained that, although the purples have transferred different documents, their position remains the same at the point that generates the fundamental discrepancies and therefore "no progress" in the negotiation.

He has also defended the bill presented by the PSOE, which in his opinion prevents the sentences for those convicted of sexual crimes from being reduced -as has happened since the law of 'only yes is yes' came into force in October- - and also maintains consent at the center of the law, as claimed by the Ministry of Equality.

For her part, Irene Montero has called on the PSOE to reach "an agreement" on the 'only yes is yes' Law "before its debate reaches plenary session" and has warned the Socialists about the effects of allying with PP and Vox to return to the Penal Code of the sentence of the 'herd'.

From the purple wing of the Executive they recognize that this dispute is detrimental to everyone and erodes the Executive, but they disgrace their partner's lack of will to negotiate when they have given in and agree to tweak the regulatory text.

Especially, sectors of United We Can deepen, when Equality has requested a meeting and multiple proposals have been presented (they quantify seven), which range from raising the range of penalties and introducing aggravating circumstances to ponder violence and intimidation.

And it is that Montero has replied, compared to what was maintained by the Minister of Finance, that they have transferred various proposals and their partners have them, although they are also open to receiving other proposals for changes.

In this way, sources from the confederate space warn their partner that they have to take note of what is happening in Congress, as seen in the refusal to urgently address their bill in Congress. And it is that they sentence that their reform approach leads them to parliamentary solitude in groups with clearly left-wing positions, such as Bildu and ERC, and leads them to have to seek support in the PP, which would be a victory for the opposition.

Therefore, and from the different nuances of all the branches of United We Can, the minority partner of the Executive closes ranks with the position of Equality and they want the PSOE to reconsider and designate an interlocutor to forge an agreement, be it Justice or other socialist members of the cabinet .

Otherwise, voices from the purple group indicate that if the dialogue with the socialists becomes entrenched, they will have to debate how they react, during the parliamentary process, to preserve the heart of the regulations, key to the feminist movement.
