Polish president criticizes Macron and Scholz for holding talks with Putin

BERLIN, June 9. (DPA/EP) -

Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday criticized his French and German counterparts, Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz, respectively, for holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"I am amazed by all these conversations that are being held with Putin, by Chancellor Scholz and by President Emmanuel Macron. The talks are not achieving anything," Duda assured in an interview with the German newspaper 'Bild'.

Duda maintains that speaking with Putin represents a "kind of legitimization of a person who is responsible for the crimes perpetrated by the Russian Army in Ukraine."

Likewise, the Polish president has affirmed that the Russian leader is solely responsible for sending his Army to Ukraine, although he has added that Putin is backed by his military commanders.

On the other hand, the president of Poland has argued that the situation in Ukraine is comparable to that of Nazi Germany in World War II.

"And someone spoke to Adolf Hitler like that during the Second World War? (...) Someone told him that his face had to be saved? That things had to be done in such a way that Adolf Hitler would not be humiliated?" , has added.
