Police and civil guards summoned by Jusapol protest this Saturday in Madrid against the reform of the 'gag law'

MADRID, 4 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Police and civil guards summoned by the Jusapol platform will protest this Saturday in Madrid against the negotiation of the Government and its investiture partners to reform the Citizen Security Law of 2015, known by its detractors as the 'gag law'.

The reform promoted by PSOE and Unidas Podemos was elevated on February 1 to the Interior Commission of Congress thanks to the favorable vote of ERC. The Ministry of the Interior has assured that it trusts the agreement, although respecting the balance between citizen rights and the defense of police work.

The investiture partners maintain their discrepancies, however, about eliminating rubber bullets as riot police material, disobedience, disrespect to police officers and the hot returns of migrants.

Previously, the main police organizations staged a large demonstration against this reform. It was also held in Madrid on November 27, 2021, with the support of representatives of PP, Vox and Ciudadanos.

The protest is seconded by JUCIL and JUPOL, the majority organizations within the Civil Guard and the Police, both of which emerged from this platform that calls for "real salary equality."

According to Jusapol, the reform of the law that the PP approved in 2015 "will not really guarantee citizen security", hence they stress the "need to forge a common front", to which other union organizations such as CSIF have joined this Saturday.

This last union has explained that it is demanding a National Coordination Law from the Government to improve the conditions of the Local Police, as well as the recognition of prison officials as agents of authority.
