Podemos urges the PSOE to meet before the Debate on the Nation and reaffirms its rejection of raising military spending

Asks to unblock the repeal of the 'gag' law and housing and change of course to reconnect with a "disoriented" electorate

MADRID, 6 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokesman for United We Can in Congress, Pablo Echenique, has redoubled the call from his space to the PSOE to change its position on increasing military spending and get back on track to retune with its electorate, "disoriented" before the "messages" of his partner at the NATO Summit and on the deaths of migrants at the Melilla border fence.

In this sense, he considered it pertinent that the meeting of the coalition's monitoring commission, requested yesterday by the second vice-president Yolanda Díaz, should take place before the Debate on the State of the Nation. In addition, she has demanded to unblock the housing law and the repeal of the 'gag law' before undertaking the negotiation of the next General State Budgets for 2023.

At a press conference in Congress, Echenique explained that the country is at a "decisive moment" for the country, given this, the Government must "reorient the course", "recover the rhythm" of social advances and put them on the table given the importance of future public accounts.

Therefore, and in the face of those who are asking for an increase in the military budget, the leader of the purple formation has specified that each euro in arms spending is subtracted from social priorities, especially when Spain "is not at war" but rather suffers from the economic effects of the conflict.

In this way, it has listed the priorities of the confederal space for the next PGE, which revolve around limiting the price of fuel, extending paternity and maternity leave to six months, a universal income of 100 euros for children, the creation of a fund of 10,000 million to improve health and public education, reduce the transport subscription to 10 euros and make the 15% rise in the Minimum Vital Income permanent. And all this with a progressive tax reform that applies a specific tax to large companies and fortunes.

To recover that rhythm, Echenique has stressed unblocking the repeal of the 'gag' law and the housing law, since it will allow the political initiative to be recovered and the progressive majority in Congress to be revalidated for future accounts in 2023.

He has also made it clear that the position of Podemos is clear in the face of the PGE and that "in no case" do they think it is "a good idea to increase spending on weapons, missiles and tanks but to allocate all the investment to public services", for which they will try to convince the PSOE.

Therefore, he has encouraged to convene as soon as possible the meeting between the partners where they are going to raise the need to recalibrate the direction of the Executive, since it is key to recovering the political initiative and that the progressive bases are represented in the Government's action, because it is the way to revalidate the coalition government in 2023.
