The First Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Committee (CFCB) announced this Friday decisions that affect eight clubs that participated in the 2021/22 UEFA club competitions, measures for breaching the financial balance of those that were saved the Spanish FC Barcelona, Seville and Betis.
"The First Chamber of the CFCB determined that AC Milan (ITA), AS Monaco (FRA), AS Roma (ITA), Besiktas JK (TUR), FC Internazionale Milano (ITA), Juventus (ITA), Olympique de Marseille (FRA) and Paris Saint-Germain (FRA) did not meet the break-even requirement," UEFA's official statement said.
The analysis covered fiscal years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, but fiscal years 2020 and 2021 were subject to the Covid emergency measures. Under these measures, the 2020 and 2021 financial years were evaluated as a single period and clubs were allowed to make specific adjustments.
"These eight clubs have agreed to financial contributions of €172 million. These amounts will be withheld from the revenue these clubs earn from their participation in UEFA club competitions or paid directly. Of this amount, €26 million (15 %) will be paid in full, while the remaining balance of 146 million euros (85%) is conditional on meeting the established objectives," he says.
In addition, the First Chamber of the CFCB also observed that another 19 clubs that participated in the 2021/22 UEFA club competitions, including the aforementioned three from the Spanish League, were able to technically meet the balance requirement thanks to the application of the COVID-19 emergency measures and/or because they benefited from historical positive balance results.
"The First Chamber of the CFCB reminded these clubs that as of the 2023 financial year, these exceptional COVID deductions will no longer be possible, nor the consideration of historical financial results. In addition, these clubs were asked for additional financial information and will be monitored. closely in the next period", he adds.
