New construction permits exceeded 42,000 units until May

MADRID, 7 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

New construction visas reached 42,582 units between January and May, 1.54% more than in the same period of 2021, when 41,934 visas were granted, according to data from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, consulted by Europe Press.

In May alone, 7,647 new works were approved, 14.8% less than in the same month of 2021. The figure for May 2022 is the lowest since the same month in 2016, when the visas stood at 7,120 units, without taking into account the decrease registered during the pandemic, in 2020, when new construction permits for May fell to 6,591.

Of the 42,582 new construction visas registered until May this year, 11,320 were for single-family homes (7.05%) and 31,171 units for block homes (-0.34%).

In addition, in the first five months of 2022, 21 new construction permits were granted for other types of buildings that are neither single-family homes nor block, 23.5% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The statistics also show that the average area per dwelling in May was 189.6 square meters in the case of single-family dwellings and 114.9 square meters for block dwellings. In other buildings, the average area was 166.2 square meters.
