Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon due to abdominal injury

The Spaniard announces at a press conference that he cannot play Friday's semifinal against Kyrgios

MADRID, 7 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal announced Thursday that he will not play his Wimbledon semifinal against Australian Nick Kyrgios on Friday after the abdominal injury suffered on Wednesday against American Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals.

Nadal, champion this 2022 of the Australian Open and Roland Garros, aspired to win the third 'Grand Slam' of the course in dispute. However, after beating Fritz with difficulty and in five sets, under the threat of retirement from the second act, the injury forced him to retire in London.

The champion of 22 'greats' called a press conference at the All Englad Tennis Club to explain his decision. "You can imagine why I'm here, I have to retire. As everyone saw yesterday, I was suffering from pain in the abdomen and I have a tear in the muscle," said the Spanish tennis player.
