The National Regeneration Movement (Morena) of the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has won in four of the six states where elections have been held this Sunday, in a day without incident, in which more than eleven million people have elected governors in the states of Aguascalientes, Durango, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Tamaulipas and Quintana Roo, the National Electoral Institute (INE) has reported.

Morena has obtained victory in Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Tamaulipas and Quintana Roo, while the opposition coalition will govern in Durango and Aguascalientes, although participation has not exceeded 55 percent in any state.

In case the preliminary electoral results are confirmed, the party of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will govern in 20 states, thus reinforcing his leadership.

Julio Menchaca, the morenista candidate, has swept Hidalgo in this Sunday's elections with 62 percent of the vote.

After knowing the quick count of the election for governor in Tamaulipas, the Morena candidate, Américo Villareal, has won in Oaxaca, Salomón Jara and María Elena Lezama Espinosa, also from Morena, has won in Quintana Roo.

While the opposition coalition of the Mexican National Action Party (PAN), the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), have won with the candidate Esteban Villegas and in Aguascalientes Teresa Jiménez.
