Montero responds to Ayuso that the greatest tax reduction for the people of Madrid is the one approved by the central government

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Finance and Public Function, María Jesús Montero, has indicated this Tuesday, before the reduction of personal income tax announced by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, that the greatest tax reduction that the people of Madrid will enjoy is the approved by the central government with the cut in taxes on electricity bills.

"The main tax reduction that the people of Madrid have had, let us put the case, has been precisely the one promoted by the Government of Spain through the lowering of the electricity bill", indicated Montero at the end of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, where he recalled that said tax reduction represents 7,000 million and if it lasts until the end of the year, it will cost 12,000 million.

In this sense, he has defended that the Government has always conveyed that it considers it necessary to promote a tax reform that allows the tax system to be "fair, progressive, where those who earn the most contribute the most" and where all citizens can receive quality public services .

In his opinion, the only objective of taxation is to allow equal opportunities among citizens, which is why he accused some political groups of engaging in "fiscal demagoguery and fiscal populism", since they do not admit that lowering taxes "implies the weakening of of the welfare state, which is the most important security cushion for citizens".

Thus, it has indicated that the Government will adapt the guidelines of the tax reform to the "economic circumstances that exist at any given time" and, for this reason, in recent months it has promoted a tax reduction on electricity, "necessary" so that citizens and companies could mitigate the impact of high energy costs.
