Mexico recovers 37 migrant bodies in the first five months of this year

MADRID, 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Mexican National Migration Institute (INM) has reported this Sunday that at least 37 migrant bodies have been recovered between January and May of this year in Mexico, most of them trying to cross the Rio Grande on the border with the United States.

The 37 bodies were found in the states of Coahuila, Baja California, Tamaulipas and Veracruz, in their attempt to reach the United States, 33 of them could not overcome the force of the current, the depth and the low temperatures of the Rio Grande, as detailed by the INM in a statement.

Of the deceased, 22 people did not have identification and 15 came from Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, Peru, Venezuela and Mexico, according to the INM.

"The INM endorses its commitment to safeguard people in the context of mobility throughout the national territory, without undermining their political, economic or social status, with special attention to those who are part of vulnerable groups, such as girls, boys, adolescents, women pregnant women and older adults, among others," the government body has sentenced.
