Mexico arrests the capo 'El Gafe', related to a shooting in a shopping center in Jalisco

MADRID, 14 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Mexican Army announced this Thursday the arrest of César Augusto N, alias 'El Gafe', alleged leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, accused of crimes such as homicide and kidnapping, as well as an alleged armed attack in a shopping center for the kidnapping of an entrepreneur.

The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) of the North American country has communicated that the authorities arrested 'El Gafe' on Tuesday, "alleged plaza boss and main generator of violence in the Zapopan, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga and El Salto municipalities, in Jalisco ".

The Sedena, in turn, has arrested Juan Carlos N, whom he also points out as "alleged member of a criminal group with a presence in the state of Jalisco and at the national level."

The authorities have indicated that, after achieving the arrest of César Augusto, they seized "several packages with narcotic content, various firearms, chargers and cartridges of various calibers for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces."

"The relevance of this arrest --'El Gafe'-- (lies in the fact that) he is linked to crimes such as homicide and kidnapping, as well as the authorship of the events that occurred on October 2 in the shopping center in Zapopan, derived from the which one person lost his life", explained the undersecretary of Public Security Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, in statements collected by the newspaper 'El Heraldo de México'.

Both the detainees and the seized material have been made available to the competent authorities, says a statement from the Mexican Ministry of Defense.

The ministerial portfolio, for its part, has positively valued these actions by the Armed Forces, measures that it describes as "a resounding blow against organized crime."

Likewise, he highlighted the inter-institutional coordination of the Army, the National Guard and other entities, "with which the commitment to watch over and safeguard the well-being of citizens is endorsed, to guarantee the peace and security of the population.

On October 2, one person died and six were injured in a shooting in a shopping center in the city of Zapopan, in eastern Jalisco (west). The incident took place due to an attempted kidnapping in the area, which caused the intervention of Army soldiers.

The Jalisco prosecutor, Luis Joaquín, Méndez, explained that among the injured are two of the suspects, an escort of the person who was supposed to be kidnapped and three people who were at the scene.
