Meloni says that Italy and Spain will continue to cooperate on energy, real economy and immigration

MADRID, 3 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, assured this Thursday that her Government and the Spanish will continue to cooperate on energy and migration matters after the call she had the day before with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

"Italy and Spain will continue to cooperate on the main issues at the center of the European and international agenda," said the far-right leader, who thanked Sánchez for her congratulations on becoming prime minister.

Among these issues, Meloni has cited "the energy issue, collaboration in the NATO sphere, support for the real economy and immigration" in a message published on his Twitter in response to that of the President of the Government informing of his first contact telephone.

"We will continue working together within the framework of the EU and NATO and strengthening our bilateral relations," said Sánchez, who had not congratulated Meloni until yesterday despite the fact that she took office on October 22 after winning victory in the elections on September 25.

Sánchez had maintained a close relationship with the previous Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, with whom there was a clear harmony on various issues, especially regarding the energy crisis and the response to it. Spain and Italy have also maintained similar positions within the EU regarding immigration, although with nuances, since both are countries of entry.
