Mbappé beats Juventus and Chelsea stumbles in Zagreb

MADRID, 6 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Paris Saint-Germain opened the Champions League group stage on Tuesday with a solid victory against Juventus thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappé (2-1), on a first day in which Chelsea fell into home of Dinamo Zagreb (1-0) and in which Borussia Dortmund thrashed Copenhagen (3-0) in their first European game without Erling Haaland.

In the Parc des Princes, the French forward barely needed five minutes to pierce the 'Vecchia Signora' goal with a cross shot. Already in the 22nd minute, he put the game back on track by completing a great team move by Neymar and Achraf Hakimi.

The Italian team threatened to get into the game after Weton McKennie saw the door as soon as he jumped onto the pitch (min. 53), but it was just a mirage. Those of Christophe Galtier tied the clash to present his candidacy to the 'Orejona'.

Even so, the Parisian team will not be able to treasure the leadership of Group H, an honor that Benfica will hold after beating Maccabi Haifa (2-0) in Lisbon with two goals in four minutes from Rafa Silva and the Spanish Alejandro Grimaldo.

In Zagreb, Chelsea offered the first big surprise of the season by losing to Dinamo Zagreb, who made the most of Mislav Orsic's solitary goal after 13 minutes (1-0). The numerous attempts by Thomas Tuchel's men to reach the Croatian goal were neutralized in a duel in which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made his debut, wearing a protective mask after the assault on his home suffered in Barcelona.

Thus, he will sleep as bottom of Group E, in which Salzburg and AC Milan shared the points (1-1). The local team went ahead before half an hour through Noah Okafor, but the 'rossoneri' leveled the match before the break thanks to Alexis Saelemaekers.

For its part, Borussia Dortmund showed that there is life beyond the Norwegian Erling Haaland, his offensive reference in recent years and who packed his bags for Manchester, and thrashed Copenhagen (3-0) to become leader of Group G, that it shares with City and Seville. Goals from Reus and Guerreiro opened the way in the first half, and Bellingham's in the second sealed the Germans' fabulous debut.

Lastly, in Group F, where Real Madrid is also present, Shakhtar Donetsk surprised RB Leipzig at home (1-4). Goals from Shved, with a brace, Mudryk and Traoré gave the Ukrainians a valuable lead.
