Marlaska trusts prevention together with Morocco to avoid a "violent attack" on the Melilla border

BADAJOZ, Oct. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has shown this Monday his confidence in "prevention" together with Morocco to avoid a new "violent attack" by migrants on the border fence that gives access to Melilla. In this sense, he has highlighted that the relationship is "absolutely close, firm and real, with which only tranquility can be generated".

"We work day by day with the Government of Morocco to prevent, to dismantle organizations that traffic in human beings and, obviously, to prevent violent entries into our country," he said when asked about the situation in Melilla and the information that points to the presence of some 5,000 migrants congregating in the outskirts of Nador to jump to Melilla.

After meeting with his counterpart from Portugal, Grande-Marlaska explained that they "work" on a "permanent" basis in terms of prevention and response and that, when dealing with irregular migration, they do so "in the same terms".

The Spanish State Security Forces and Bodies work "permanently", he insisted, pointing out that in this case it is specifically the Civil Guard that guarantees the borders and "that there is no violent attack", the same expression he used to define the jump registered on June 24 in which at least 23 migrants died.

In addition, they do so "always" in accordance with the criteria of proportionality and necessity, he stressed, to conclude that cooperation and coordination in this matter with Morocco, as in "any other matter" is "absolutely close, firm and real." which we can only generate tranquility in our society," he added.
