Iberdrola Spain has appointed Mario Ruiz-Tagle, until now CEO of the Brazilian subsidiary of the Neoenergia group, as its new CEO, the company reported.

Born in Santiago (Chile), Ruiz-Tagle, who replaces Ángeles Santamaría in the position, will be responsible for the income statement in Spain and for representing the company before government bodies and external institutions, as well as for designing the general policies and strategies of the company in the country.

Married and father of four children, Ruiz-Tagle has a degree in Legal and Social Sciences from the Universidad Diego Portales, in Santiago de Chile, and a Master's degree in Business Administration and Finance from the Universidad Pontificia Católica de Chile.

Iberdrola Spain was established in June 2014, when the new governance model for the energy group was completed, which then already had similar companies in the rest of its reference markets.

The new CEO of Iberdrola Spain has been linked to the energy sector since 1996. He began his career at Iberdrola two decades ago as director of Institutional Relations for the Brazilian subsidiary; In 2004 he was appointed Business Director of Iberdrola's department in Latin America and six years later he became Country Manager of Iberdrola Brazil.

In 2017, the year in which Neoenergia incorporated Elektro Redes, Ruiz-Tagle was appointed CEO and in July 2019 he led the successful capital opening process.

Neoenergia has been one of the growth vectors of the Iberdrola group, especially in recent years. The Brazilian subsidiary of the energy company, of which the parent company controls 53.5%, has gone from earning 303 million Brazilian reais (about 55.8 million euros) in 2016 to 3,925 million reais (722 million euros) , which means multiplying your net profit by 13 in five years.

In the first quarter of this year, Neoenergia earned 20% more than in the same period of 2021, 1,212 million Brazilian reais (223 million euros), and accounted for a fifth of the group's global result.

For his part, the position of CEO of Neoenergia left by Ruiz-Tagle has been assumed by Eduardo Capelastegui, until now executive director of Patrimonial Control and Planning of Neoenergia.
