Maduro asks Alberto Fernández to convene a CELAC summit and invite Biden

MADRID, 7 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has asked his Argentine counterpart and president of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Alberto Fernández, on Monday to convene a Summit of the organization where the 33 countries of the region participate and that count with the participation of the President of the United States, Joe Biden.

"CELAC, President Alberto Fernández, chaired by you, must convene an agenda of priority issues of maximum interest for our peoples at a summit meeting, where the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean go, and President Joe Biden is invited to listen to the dignity of our peoples and our stories", declared the Venezuelan president from the Miraflores Palace, in Caracas, as reported by 'Diario Vea'.

This request comes after reiterating its rejection of the decision of the United States to exclude Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua from the IX Summit of the Americas held in Los Angeles.

For Maduro, the convening of a CELAC Summit will be a way "to start a new path, as the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, proposed this Monday, and in the reflections he has been making in recent weeks, the need for a new body, in which all the countries of America, our America, participate without exclusion", he underlined.

Likewise, the president of Venezuela thanked his Mexican counterpart, López Obrador, for not attending the Summit.

"All the support that he (López Obrador) has sent in recent weeks to abandon the world of sanctions, blockades, exclusions, discrimination. What the government of the United States of America is doing is an act of discrimination against three peoples, against three governments," Maduro asserted.

In this sense, the Venezuelan president has stressed that the summit "is a total failure, it has no agenda or theme. It has no decision points, it has nothing to link that meeting to the problems and issues of interest and priority for the peoples of the Americas".

Maduro has ruled that the United States has "stabbed" the summit and has made it "fail" due to the lack of assistance from some leaders of American countries.
