Macron sees his absolute majority in danger in the French parliamentary elections, according to a poll

MADRID, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, could lose the absolute majority in the French Parliament before the legislative elections scheduled for this Sunday, according to a survey, which points to an increase in support in favor of the coalition of leftist parties led by Jean Luc Melenchon.

A survey carried out by Ifop-Fiducial for the LCI TV network has indicated that the president's formation, La República en Marcha, could be made with a range of between 250 and 290 in the National Assembly, which represents a decrease compared to the estimates of the last May. Macron needs to win 289 seats out of the total of 577 that make up Parliament to maintain an absolute majority.

The left-wing coalition, the Nueva Unión Popular Ecologista y Social (known as Nupes), could win between 195 and 230 seats, a clear increase compared to the data previously collected.

Other polls, such as that of Ipsos-Sopra, project a maximum of 200 seats for the lefts united by Mélenchon in a single candidacy. Thus, the president could face a strong threat in the face of the elections, whose second round is scheduled for June 19.

If Mélenchon manages to win the majority, he could be appointed prime minister and, if he loses the absolute majority, Macron and his center allies would need to join forces to carry out their projects and regulations, either by forming a coalition or by gathering the necessary votes. on every occasion.

These scenarios suppose a greater difficulty when it comes to governing and requires commitments from the parties before the bills presented. On the other hand, forming a governing coalition could involve handing over portfolios to rival parties in order to cement cooperation.

Abstention could play a key role in this weekend's elections. According to the polls, this could surpass the record of 51.3 percent registered five years ago.
