Lula wins by a narrow margin and will face Bolsonaro in the second round, according to partial results

MADRID, 2 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has obtained 45.7 percent of the votes in the first round of the Brazilian presidential elections held this Sunday, according to official results corresponding to 0.16 percent of the count.

Lula thus remains far from the 50 percent that would have guaranteed him direct election in the first round and will have to face the second most voted candidate, the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro, in the second round scheduled for October 30.

Bolsonaro has achieved 42.47 percent of the vote, far ahead of the other candidates in these elections, one of the most polarized in recent Brazilian history.
