Lula leads Bolsonaro by 12 points ahead of the Brazilian presidential elections

MADRID, 4 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The candidate of the Workers' Party (PT) for the Presidency of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, would receive the most votes in the elections on October 2 with 45% support, compared to the 34% that the current president would achieve and candidate for re-election, the far-right Jair Bolsonaro.

Former Minister Ciro Gomes, of the Democratic Labor Party (PDT), would be the third by far, with 9 percent of voting intentions, while Senator Simone Tebet (Brazilian Democratic Movement, MDB) would achieve 3 percent, according to the survey prepared by the Institute of Social, Political and Economic Research (IPESPE). No other candidate exceeds 2 percent of voting intention.

As for the second round, Lula would beat Bolsonaro (53-35 percent) and would also beat Ciro or Tebet. Bolsonaro would be in a technical tie with Ciro and Tebet.

This is the first survey carried out by IPESPE without the name of former Sao Paulo Governor Joao Doria (Brazilian Social Democracy Party, PSDB) due to lack of support in his own party. With Doría's resignation, the so-called "third way" collapses in a similar way to when Sérgio Moro dropped out of the race in April.

The study is based on 1,000 telephone interviews conducted with citizens aged 16 and over between May 30 and June 1. The confidence level is 95.5 percent.
