López Obrador assures that Mexico has recovered the economic levels prior to the pandemic

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured this Thursday that the country has recovered the economic levels prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has maintained this during a rendering of accounts of what has been carried out by his Executive in the last three months and in which he has stressed that Mexico has faced "great challenges", according to the Mexican newspaper 'El Economista'.

"In these years we have faced great challenges, such as the pandemic and the economic crisis, however, these difficult circumstances put us to the test and show whether the project of change that we initiated works," said López Obrador from the National Palace.

The president of Mexico has also pointed out that, despite the fact that there has been no growth in the country's economy, a better distribution of wealth would have been achieved, reported 'El Sol de México'.

"Without growth, but with a better distribution of income, we have managed to reduce inequality and poverty (...) While in 2018 the richest earned on average 18 times more than the poor in 2020, inequality has been reduced to 16 times," he added.

Among other data, López Obrador has highlighted an increase in people registered with Social Security, which has reached more than 21 million people, 623 thousand more than before March 2020.
