Llop sees the Supreme Court's control over the CNI as "fundamental" and reports that his mobile did not suffer an infection with Pegasus

MADRID, 30 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, assured this Monday that the judicial control of the Supreme Court over the National Intelligence Center (CNI) is "fundamental" in a rule of law and has reported that her mobile phone was not infected with the Pegasus espionage program, as the Spanish intelligence service informed him the day after it was handed over to him for analysis.

Llop has stressed that it is "important" to defend that Spain is a rule of law, so it is also "important" that there is judicial control and it is "essential" that it be done by the Supreme Court "when requested by the members of the CNI".

"As is done now in the law", answered the minister after being asked about the information that points to misgivings within the Supreme Court regarding the possibility that a reform of the law on official secrets, such as the one announced by the Government, will give greater responsibility to analyze in which cases to authorize eavesdropping.

The head of Justice has refused to rule on the content of the law because it is being worked on. "But because we don't know what the final text will be either," she explained.

Regarding Pegasus, Llop has said that they told him that his mobile did not suffer from an infection. "And they returned it to me, it seems to me, the next day," he told the media at the Center for Legal Studies. There he has inaugurated a conference on scholarships from the Ministry to access the judicial and prosecutorial careers, the body of lawyers of the Administration of Justice and that of the State Lawyer.

It was on May 3 when the head of Justice announced that she was going to hand over her mobile to the CNI for examination and after the Government reported that the telephone number of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and that of the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, were infected with the Pegasus software in 2021.

Llop defended that day during an interview that the Sánchez Executive has complied with cybersecurity protocols and system updates on its mobile devices, although it did not clarify whether they regularly handed over their phones to the CNI.
