Liz Truss increases her advantage as favorite to succeed Boris Johnson as head of the British Government

MADRID, 22 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is shaping up more and more with each passing day to succeed Boris Johnson as head of the Conservative Party and, by extension, as Prime Minister, according to British bookmakers.

Truss and former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak are the last two contenders in the running after the latest Conservative Party vote on Thursday, where Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt was "eliminated."

Sunak and Truss will now embark on a tour of the UK ahead of the final vote on September 5, amid favoritism from bookmakers including Sky Bet, Ladbrokes, Paddy Paddy Power and William Hill.

Also according to a YouGov survey among 730 members of the Conservative Party, 62 percent declared their vote for Truss and 38 percent in favor of Sunak, according to Bloomberg.
