Lecomte: "Espanyol is a great club, not a springboard"

The new RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte, who arrives on loan from Monaco until the end of the season and without a purchase option, after spending last year on loan at Atlético de Madrid but without playing, assured in his presentation that he will not come to the blue and white club thinking of using it as a "trampoline".

"I have progressed a lot in these years and I have to thank Espanyol for giving me this confidence. This is a great club in the League, it is not a springboard. I want to show my abilities and mark history and stay to have a very good season ", he stated at a press conference.

He revealed that he did not hesitate to accept another loan, this time to Espanyol. "I am very happy to be here and I am going to give everything to have a good season. Ever since I found out about this interest, I wanted to sign for Espanyol to progress in my career. Having this opportunity has been key for me," he acknowledged.

Of course, it comes from not playing minutes at Atlético, living in the shadow of Jan Oblak. "It seems a little strange not having a player last year, but, in the end, with a team like Atleti, with high-level players, I have progressed a lot, there is great intensity in training. "One understands what it is to be a goalkeeper with Oblak when you spend a year with him. My mentality changed, now I understand why he is one of the best in the world. But my references are more goalkeepers like Neuer or Ter Stegen", the goalkeeper was honest 31-year-old Parisian.
