Lavrov highlights the role of Eurasia and claims that Russia withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council on its own

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has highlighted the role of Eurasia in the world and has assured that Russia withdrew from the United Nations Security Council on its own despite the suspension vote by the General Assembly.

Lavrov has indicated that Russia should focus on the Eurasian region to further develop the country and its capabilities, since Eurasia "is becoming the most promising region in the world", as reported by the TASS news agency.

"The center of global growth has shifted to Eurasia today. We have the largest network of associations in the Eurasian region at the moment. We have to rely on them to further develop our country, its transport, transit and logistics capabilities." , has said.

On the other hand, in his opinion, the economic interaction between Russia and China will gain momentum in the near future because the West "maintains the position of the dictator" and because "the bulk of the projects with China are evolving and being implemented right there. ".

"(China) is an opportunity to realize our potential in the high-tech sphere, including the nuclear energy segment, and in the whole range of other spheres," the Russian foreign minister added.

Thus, he pointed out that Russia has "the long border with the People's Republic of China and common interests in defending the principles of equity and the multipolar world order in international affairs. The mutual economic benefit is evident."

Lavrov has stressed that Russia must "stop relying on supplies of anything from the West to ensure the development of sectors of critical importance to the country's security, economy and social sphere."

The UN removed Russia from the Human Rights Council on April 7 through a vote of the General Assembly, although the official version of Moscow is to argue that it had already decided to withdraw before the expulsion.

"We withdrew from the Human Rights Council on our own. They wanted to expel us from it, suspend our membership. We decided to do it ourselves. The Council discredited itself long before the current situation around Ukraine began," Lavrov said. this Monday.

Thus, the Russian Foreign Minister has emphasized that Russia will only rely on itself and on countries that have proven their reliability and that do not "dance to anyone's tune", as reported by the TASS news agency.

"If Western countries change their minds and suggest forms of cooperation, we will think about it," stressed the person in charge of the Russian Foreign Ministry. In this sense, he has reiterated that if the West wants to "offer something in terms of resumption of relations, Russia will think twice about whether or not it needs it very much."
