Lavrov assures that the "European political community" is an idea deliberately with anti-Russian intentions

MADRID, 18 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that French President Emmanuel Macron's proposal to create a "European political community" is a deliberately confrontational idea with anti-Russian intentions.

Macron proposed in May the creation of a "European political community" as a space for cooperation in different fields in which states such as Ukraine, which share the values of the European Union (EU), could participate.

"Until now, they have been announcing the 'European political community', initiated by French President Macron, where there will be no particular financial or economic benefits, but there will be demands for full solidarity with the EU over its anti-Russian actions. It is no longer a question of a principle "either this or the other", but of a principle "who is not with, is against us", Lavrov declared in an interview with the daily 'Izvestia'.

"Macron himself explained what this community consists of: the EU will invite all European countries to join, from Iceland to Ukraine, but not Russia. I will point out here that it is not necessary to be invited, but the declaration itself , which reveals the nature of this deliberately confrontational and divisive idea, is noteworthy," said the foreign minister.

In this sense, he stressed that Ukraine, Moldova and other countries "courted today by the EU are destined to be extras in Western games. The United States, as the main producer of these productions, orders the music and the plot, based on which the anti-Russian script is written in Europe".
